Omar Abdullah Omar Abdullah was born on March 10, 1970, in Rochford, Essex, England. He hails from a very important political family. His grandfather, Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah, was known as the "Lion of Kashmir" and was one of the first important political figures from Jammu and Kashmir. In 1939, he founded the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference. His father, Farooq Abdullah, served multiple times as Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. Education

Omar completed his schooling at Burn Hall School, Srinagar and later went on to Lawrence School, Sanawar, Himachal Pradesh. Omar then graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Commerce from Sydenham College, Mumbai. He then did a post-graduation in business administration from the University of Strathclyde in Scotland.

Entry into Politics

Omar started his political career as the youngest MP from the Lal Chowk constituency by getting elected to the 12th Lok Sabha in 1998. He was re-elected in 1999, wherein he was made Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry by the Vajpayee government. In 2001, he was made the Union Minister of State for External Affairs.
